The glass in a storefront likely isn’t the first aspect of the store that comes to mind. It seems insignificant when compared to paint color and displays, but it’s actually one of the first things you notice about a store, even before you see any products or advertisements. When you’re walking down a street or in a shopping center, you typically have a variety of stores to choose from, and most times you don’t have the time or desire to walk into all of them. One way you subconsciously narrow down your options is by scanning the storefronts, which is usually all you have to work with. If the best products are picked for the front displays, you’re more likely to want to go in and peruse their selection. There is, however, another important thing your mind notices and catalogs in your mind: the overall cleanliness of the store. You can’t see the whole store and assess its cleanliness from outside, so your mind uses what it can to get an idea of how clean and tidy the store is. The storefront, though small, can be very telling. The glass that makes up the display is a good indicator of whether or not the store is clean enough for you. Just by looking at the storefront glass as you pass by, you can tell whether or not the employees clean frequently and how well they do it. If the glass is covered in fingerprints, smudges, has cracks, or is somehow damaged, there’s a good chance the store isn’t clean enough. An excessive amount of smudges and fingerprints on either side of the glass proves that employees don’t wipe down the storefront and therefore doesn’t clean around the store either. When your storefront is the first thing people see when they walk inside, it’s important that it looks clean because they will be more willing to come in and buy your products. As a business owner, you should care about the way your store looks to potential customers as well as returning customers. If your store’s aesthetic is marred by serious cracks and smudges, your current customer base may reconsider paying your store a visit. Your goal is likely to grow your business and increase product sales, which can’t happen if your loyal customers have a change of heart and you aren’t attracting any new customers. For this reason, maintaining a beautiful storefront is vital to the success of your business.
